DAV DENVER ARTS & CULTURE FUND

Indirect Costs and Indirect Cost Rate

Overview:
Under NEA Terms and Conditions for Local Arts Agencies to subgrant, the DAV Arts & Culture Fund must allow for acceptance of federally recognized indirect cost rates. This additional funding could also be described as a supplement to your project costs.

What are Direct Costs?

Direct costs are identifiable to a specific project or program. Support from DAV Arts & Culture Fund can cover these costs.

What are Indirect Costs?

Indirect costs are costs incurred by an individual, business or organization that are not readily identifiable to a specific project or program. These costs are necessary for the operations of the individual, business or organization and its ability to perform its functions but would be incurred with or without the program you or your organization is using the DAV Arts & Culture Fund for.

Some examples include rent or lease costs, utilities, office supplies or rental costs, certain technology costs such as internet service, and general maintenance costs.

Other examples include general administrative salaries and wages (office manager, general manager), human resources costs, and legal costs.

How Much Do I Ask For? How Much Can I Get?

A calculator has been provided to help determine the amount of your Project Direct Costs plus your Indirect Cost Supplement. The maximum grant available is $15,000, which includes both your Project Direct Costs and your Indirect Cost Supplement.

This calculator creates the Indirect Cost Supplement based on 10% of your Project Direct Costs excluding equipment.

What Can the Indirect Cost Supplement Be Spent On?

As noted above, the Indirect Cost Supplement monies can be spent on general costs which are not directly attributable to your proposed project. It might include utility expenses, general office supplies like printer paper, internet, business communication, administrative support and overhead expenses.
