Trust for Public Land and Denver Parks & Recreation proudly announce the grand opening of Westwood Pocket Park, a vibrant addition to Denver's green spaces. Situated in the heart of the Westwood neighborhood, this park promises to be a haven for recreation, relaxation and community engagement.
In partnership with Denver Parks & Recreation and Denver Department of Transportation & Infrastructure, this project converted an old Xcel Energy substation into a resident-led community space.
To further reflect the Westwood community, local artists Santiago Jaramillo and Ratha Sok worked on custom murals for the park. Jaramillo, a third generation Westwood resident, uses his art to connect with the young people he sees walking a similar path. Sok, a Westwood resident and first generation Cambodian American temporary artist, uses his art to showcase community elements and highlight histories in high detail. These murals were funded by Denver Arts & Venues through the P.S. You Are Here program.
To celebrate the opening of Westwood Park, a community-wide event will be held on April 5. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with festivities, including Aztec dancers from the community, skateboarding demonstrations, live music and food vendors.
