Learn to listen like a jazz musician. Immerse yourself in the sound of classic jazz to expand your mind and aural palate.
Hear jazz like you've never heard before. The simple objective of this fun, educational opportunity is to enhance your overall listening experience when consuming live or recorded music -- like today at the 2019 Five Points Jazz Festival. This "music tasting" event will expand your listening palate by isolating each ingredient that make of the recipe of a classic jazz recording.
Professional musician and band leader Darren Kramer will guide you on a fascinating journey for a rare behind-the-scenes look at how a musician listens, speaks, reads, and writes when performing in a small jazz group. Highlights of classic recordings by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Herbie Hancock will be explored.
You'll also have a special opportunity to savor the subtle ingredients of isolated individual tracks of world-renowned saxophonist Michael Brecker for the 2004 NYC recording session of Kramer's own DKO CD "In The Now."
Darren Kramer is a Colorado native and world-class professional trombonist, composer, and band leader who has toured with Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, Rob Thomas, and Tom Jones. He has recorded with many international musicians including Garth Brooks, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mark Anthony.
