Join us as we celebrate the Art of the Drum at the Harvest Share Festival on September 17 in Madame CJ Walker Park. Moyo Nguvu Cultural Arts Center is honored to host a series of drumming workshops that will take participants from the sounds of West Africa to Latin America as we trace the roots of modern rhythms in America.
Workshops are free and open to the public, and drums are available to borrow if you don’t have your own.
Special guest facilitators include Grammy award-winning Lazaro Galarraga and internationally renowned percussionist Lazaro Blanco aka 'Furia Negra’; Drum circles will begin with a workshop by Colorado’s own IWADDE at 1 p.m.
The festival kicks off at noon with participants making their own professional-grade Shakere with special guest artist Steven Cherena. Due to limited supplies, pre-registration is required at www.moyoarts.com.
For the workshop schedule and more information, please visit www.moyoarts.com.
By sharing African and Afro-Latino musical traditions in the context of community, Denver residents will be able to celebrate their common history and culture, thereby fostering a sense of belonging.
These free community workshops were made possible by funding from Denver Arts & Venues through the Denver Music Advancement Fund and the Denver CALC Micro Grant program.
