Event Details
Partnering with the Colorado Symphony and Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, DYAO is excited to host the first Women in Music Denver Symposium. Inspired by the students of DYAO, who wanted more opportunities to learn from women in the field, its goal is to address the opportunities, successes and challenges for women in music. Students, professionals and community members are all welcome.
October 7: Performances, masterclasses, lectures, and panels featuring local and national performers, educators and speakers on the topic.
October 8: Culminating performance with the Denver Youth Artists Orchestra and Carolyn Kunicki, horn for the Colorado Symphony, and a composition by Hilary Tann, titled, Open Fields.
A special event for students and professionals to learn from each other, expected to draw participation from Denver and around the country. As a collaborative event, the goal is to bring attention to a global/national issue for women in music. Because of Denver’s large cultural and artistic presence on a national level, the symposium hopes to highlight talent and bring attention to the inequity existing in the classical music world.
Funded in part by an IMAGINE 2020 grant.
Tickets can be purchased for the Women in Music Symposium, with admission to the concert, or as a separate concert ticket.
