Learn more about an RFQ to create a public artwork for Bethesda Park.
Denver Public Art will host a virtual pre-application meeting on Monday, November 17 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for interested applicants. The meeting will cover project background and goals, and the application process for this Request for Qualifications (RFQ). Attendees will also receive information on CallForEntry.org through which artists may apply. This event will be hosted on Zoom. Interested applicants are asked to register to get information on how to join prior to the event.

Public Art Project: Bethesda Park
Budget: Approximately $90,000.00 USD
Eligibility: Artists or Artist Teams residing in the United States

Introduction
Denver Public Art seeks to commission one artist or artist teams to create public artworks for Bethesda Park, which will be one of Denver’s newest parks in the Denver Parks and Recreation system. The goal of the project is to commission a series of artworks that celebrate the history and culture of the area and its landmarks, highlights the neighborhood’s connection to nature and the environment, and emphasizes the importance of the community’s health and wellbeing.
The commission amount for an artist or artist team is $90,000.00 USD.
Goals, Site, Media & Materials
The selection panel members have set forth goals and parameters for this public art project with the hope of creating unique and seamlessly integrated artwork(s) for those who visit the park. Artists who can demonstrate a connection to the neighborhood are encouraged to apply.
Goals

The panel is interested in a series of pedestrian-scaled artworks that creatively tell the story of the site and surrounding neighborhood through the lenses of history, ecology and culture.
- The panel is interested in artwork that evokes joy and happiness and creates a sense of belonging. Different sensory experiences are encouraged.
- Plans for the park include creating spaces that emphasize health and wellness, and the panel sees an opportunity for the artwork to reflect these values.
Location
The selection panel is interested in artwork that could be interspersed throughout the park in appropriate locations. The selected artist will work closely with the project team on final siting.
Materials & Media
The selection panel is open to artwork in media and materials that complement the park, including but not limited to, stone, rock, metal, wood, etc. The panel is also open to recycled natural materials as long as they’re suitable for outdoor display. This is a 3D opportunity.
