Denver Public Art calls for qualified Colorado artists for new projects at Denver Public Library - Hadley Branch, High Line Canal, Emergency Homeless Shelter
The City and County of Denver is pleased to announce calls for qualifications for three new Denver Public Art commissions.
These three public art opportunities underscore Denver’s commitment to serving its residents, from education to recreation to safety,” said Denver Public Art manager Michael Chavez. “All three projects present a chance for an artist to creatively integrate art into the daily lives of various Denver communities: visitors at Denver Public Library Hadley Branch, golfers at Wellshire Golf Course, hikers along the High Line Canal, and employees and guests of the Emergency Homeless Shelter.”
Denver Public Library - Hadley Branch Library, 1890 S. Grove St.
The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission a Colorado artist or a team of artists to create a site-specific public artwork at Hadley Branch Library. The Hadley Library art selection panel requests that the selected artist or artist team create their project utilizing the ideaLAB resources and equipment. The library welcomes artist(s) to utilize the library resources, space and ongoing programming to help engage the neighboring community and increase community connection through planned workshops. The commission amount is $10,000 USD.
High Line Canal Trail - Colorado Boulevard and Hampden Avenue
The City of Denver’s Public Art program seeks to commission a Colorado artist or a team of artists to create a site-specific public artwork at the newly constructed half mile paved High Line Canal trail and underpass at Colorado Boulevard and Hampden Avenue. Construction of the new trail is expected to be completed in 2020. The selection panel seeks artwork that speaks to the community, the history of the area and the legacy of the High Line Canal with the potential for motion and sound art. The commission amount is $40,000 USD.
Denver Emergency Homeless Shelter - 4330 E. 48th Ave.
The City of Denver’s Public Art program seeks to commission a Colorado artist or a team of artists to create a site-specific public artwork at the newly-renovated Emergency Homeless Shelter located at 4330 E. 48th Ave. The successful artist or artist team will be asked to consider the challenges of the shelter guests who are experiencing homelessness and approach this project with empathy for them. The artwork should provide an “oasis” of comfort for guests, softening the space, and providing peace, relaxation and hope. Engagement with shelter guests through workshops or other means of participation is welcomed during the development of the artwork. The commission amount is $40,000 USD.

Funding for these projects comes from the City of Denver’s 1% for Public Art Ordinance resulting from construction of the High Line Canal, and the renovations at Denver Public Library – Hadley Branch and the Emergency Homeless Shelter. All calls are open to all artists and artist teams residing in Colorado.
