Event Details
On June 2, artist Eric Robert Dallimore of Leon Gallery, in partnership with Think 360 Arts for Learning, will join with students from Westerly Creek Elementary School and residents of Balfour Senior Living for a ribbon cutting of the inter-generational art installation “This Land Over Time,” located at the heart of Commons Park.
Developed during a Think 360 Arts Creative Aging program at Balfour Riverfront Park, "This Land Over Time" will consist of painted panels depicting many of the epochs that Commons Park and the Platte River have experienced over time. During the “public art” class, the artist and senior citizens immersed themselves in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and careful planning.
The final design, created by Colorado muralist Lisa Russel showcases the combined vision of the seniors and hand painted in bold colors and in a contemporary fashion by Balfour residents and students of Westerly Creek Elementary. Russel and Dallimore worked with the students and Balfour residents to paint the panel in early May and the project will be installed during the last week of May. The artwork will be built using renewable materials from beetle-kill pine from Colorado. An arching framework will be built to hold the three, hand painted banners, which will rise above the sidewalk into the entrance of Riverfront Park. The project is intended to provide a creative solution to the ever changing identity of Riverfront Park.
Please meet at Commons Park, near the circular walking path just north of 15th and Little Raven streets.
This project is funded in part by a P.S. You Are Here Grant.
