Event Details
Come spend a special evening with a concert and theater experience inside beautiful Botswana Hall at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. "Living History" is a first-of-its-kind event in partnership with Groupmuse that will explore how human and natural history are constantly reshaped. The evening will begin with a classical performance of a chamber piece by 18th-century composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a virtuoso of African descent who was a contemporary (and rival) of Mozart. Chevalier’s story will be introduced with a special performance by Stephen Brackett of the Flobots. During intermission, explore wildlife halls and see African zoology specimens and cultural artifacts from the Museum’s collections.
The second part of the evening will feature a reading of a new, unproduced musical by award-winning writer and polymath Brenton Weyi, an inaugural fellow at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. With a talented cast and musical ensemble, Weyi will present Act I of "My Country, My Country," an acclaimed piece-in-development based on the true story of Congolese independence during the Cold War. Don’t miss this special, one-night only evening.
This program is funded in part by a Denver Music Advancement Fund grant.
